Thomas Houseago

Thomas Houseago is a British sculptor whose monumental figures reconnected contemporary sculpture with its archaic and modernist roots. Trained in Leeds and Amsterdam and based for many years in Los Angeles, he builds bodies from plaster, bronze, wood, hemp, and iron rebar, leaving drawing and structure visible within the finished form. His sources range from Cycladic figures and African carving to Picasso, Giacometti, and cinematic imagery, producing presences that read as both ancient and immediate. Major exhibitions and collections, among them the Rubell Museum and the Pinault Collection, have secured his critical position. The works presented through RUDOLF BUDJA THEGALLERY in Miami Beach reflect his ongoing treatment of the human figure as a vessel for vulnerability and force.
